Synopsis

The second piece of blue sky concept illustration for our IP A Fearless World is to push forth the exploration of eco-brutalist structures, concrete texturing, lighting and looks.

Brutalist variety

Architecture

Brutalism as an architectural movement has shown itself to be very flexible despite the archetypally cold and monolithic fascades that people think about. While several of the famous brutalist works around the globe is monolithic, constructivist integration, playful use of structural patterns and textural variety bring more interests to the table.

To kickstart the extensive blue sky architectural process, we first looked into regular sized buildings (20-40 storeys high) with a few questions, such as ‘how can monolithic structures serves residential,’ ‘can there be modular, mobile apartments on a residential building,’ ‘what is the contemporary take on brutalism,’ ‘how can constructivism be treated,’ and more.

Textures and patterns

Textures and patterns are very crucial in helping us deliver the contexts of worldbuildng like the scale, materials that make up the city, lighting conditions, weather conditions, period, feel, and more.

We consider this white concrete material that can get complimented by the sun.

Repeated window patterns help us interpret the scale - one of the most archetypal cues when it comes to cityscape design.

… to see to what extent can they can be effectively and tastefully contrasted with the bare off white concrete we introduce.

With contemporary hexagon-based pattern of this sort, it is not about the physical window pattern, but the window lighting pattern that support the scale. The density of the physical pattern is also experimented…
