Synopsis

Public Station is the first public interior environment we did for A Fearless World. The central question that brought us to this decision is that we need to see how far we can push the integration of art and culture into this eco-brutalist world.

Public Station

Interior Design

A Public Station is a multi-purpose transport station. Most people can associate the space with today’s train station or airport. It offers planetary subway travel, space travel and more. The station is filled with foreboding art installations, from sculptures to murals, to proudly display the nation’s culture and inspirations from the cultures of the past. Every detail in this space is developed with care and attention make this space a rich and harmonic collective.

Three stories

Sculptures

Reaching to the Highest God is about the dance of mankind in the attempts to reach the highest god, interpreted the highest good. This is not a typically biblical story, but is a general throughline of humanity. The dance is as harmonic as it is chaotic. The veil of time - the bronze fabric extruded in and out of itself - depicts the ethereal nature of this collective vision of the good.

Right in the middle of the station is dorned with a collection of 3 sculptures that tell the tales as old as the Western civilization: Reaching to the Highest God, Adam and Eve, and Cain and Abel.

Adam and Eve is about self-consciousness. Eve, the first woman moulded by God, reaching the forbidden apple of Eden under the seduction of the snake, representation of Satan. Adam, the first man moulded by God, having acquired self-consciousness for Eve shared it via the apple, becomes a coward and blame Eve for his new “burden” under the judgement of God. Adam never once thinks that his female partner was tricked into this crime.

Cain and Abel is about envy for approval and faith. Cain is the first human-born male and a farmer, and Abel is his younger brother and a sheperd. While Abel is loved by everyone and his offerings are deemed commendable by God, Cain’s offerings are questioned and denied due to his lack of sincerity. Cain’s desperation for approval turned him spiteful, subsequently killing Abel. Abel is depicted protecting a lamb and reaching for the light - representation of god - while Cain beats him with a wooden club.

Noah’s Arc into Space

Mural

In 2112, the space race is booming. Humanity is reaching the point in which space travel is commercialized. The corporates’ biggest game is now interstellar, with many colonies and space stations settling across the solar system. Noah’s Arc into Space is an artistic installation that illustrates the dream of space colonies being the new solution, a salvation, to the ever-expanding eco-system of Earth.

The combination of aged metallic composite material against the shimmering glass tiles to romaticize deep space, both influenced by brutalist art installations across Eastern Europe, emphasize on the richness of this worldbuildng, allowing us to push forth for more subject matters to come in A Fearless World.

The Lounge

Interior Design

The lounge is a statement of this world’s cultural influence and reflective brutalism. The shapes and forms that convey the arc movement throughout the station reflects into several props of the lounge. We take this opportunity to develop some narratively driven materials along the mentioned forms: glass blocks and tiles, smooth concrete and semi-holographic projection.

Glass blocks are one of the hallmark trends of 1980s architecture, utilized in both brutalist and constructivist structures.

The refractive micro-detail of the glass tiles, whether underlit or let alone, reflects the arc movement and resonates with the rest of the interior.

The semi-holographic projection for the boarding info screen displays glowing texts against smooth, grey concrete.

Underground

Interior Design

The underground section of the the station is the lower walking corridors for people to get to specific platforms for their transport needs. This section presents several props, from high relief mural installation, displays, seats, stairs to moving walkways. Again, material contrast is key. We also love the idea that the underhang is made of a reflective material that artificially form rippling light effect, aligning with the idea of reflections of shapes and forms aforementioned.
